Dr. Ashwin Agarwal is a dermatologist and proud Texan. He grew up right here in Plano and attended St. Mark’s School of Texas in Dallas. His love for college basketball took him to Duke University for his undergraduate education, where he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. He graduated cum laude with dual degrees in Neuroscience and Biology and received a certificate in Genome Sciences and Policy. Dr. Agarwal continued on to the Duke University School of Medicine where he received the William G. Anlyan, M.D. Merit Scholarship and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society at the top of his class.
After receiving his M.D. degree, Dr. Agarwal did his internal medicine internship at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, California. He did his dermatology residency at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, the top ranked dermatology residency program in the country. He received rigorous training in adult and pediatric dermatology at some of the nation’s best hospitals with world renowned experts in dermatology. He was granted the singular honor of the Excellence in Patient Care Award from the American Academy of Dermatology and was invited to speak at the national meeting in Washington, D.C. At UPenn, he was selected as a fellow in Healthcare Leadership and Quality, focusing on quality initiatives across the healthcare system. He was invited to present his work locally and nationally.
Dr. Agarwal has authored numerous scientific papers in prestigious publications such as the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, JAMA Dermatology, Journal of Investigative Dermatology, and the American Journal of Medicine. He has also written book chapters on surgical reconstruction and wounds. His work has had influence beyond the scientific community -- he has authored a U.S. domestic policy memo presented on Capitol Hill and has written for the popular press, with work featured on NBC and other media outlets. Dr. Agarwal's career has been marked by scholastic excellence, systems-level leadership, and an unwavering commitment to medical education.
Dr. Agarwal specializes in both pediatric and adult dermatology, with particular interest in moles and skin cancer, medical dermatology, dermatologic surgery, and cosmetic dermatology. In his free time, he enjoys playing tennis, watching basketball, cooking, and spending time with his loved ones. He's thrilled to be back in his hometown.
